Speaking "Tagalog" with Miss Mason and Francois

    Hello!  Just curious if anyone has used the book from Cherrydale about Teaching a Language with Miss Mason and Fracois, but used it to do a different language then one of the ones they offer?  My family lives overseas so my the language I would love to introduce would be Tagalog.  I myself am just a beginning speaker, but I have had a private language tutor for a couple years, so I do have a jump start over them.  Just not sure how much of the program I would have to design myself.  I bought the ebook from Cherrydale and am just now starting to read it.  Does it give a good example and idea of the pace of how many lessons and how much to put in each week?  Since I am sorta doing my own it would be helpful to have a sample to follow.

    Hi Sandi, I have used the French version of their book by cherryville press. I didn’t get the ebook but I assume it’s the same version I have. I taught foreign languaage 2xs a week. First vocab then sentences. Then the next 2 weeks I taught the responses and verses. This system it says in the front of my book is to be used 2-3 years per book but if y’all work faster pace I don’t see why working ahead and moving along would matter. But for the 2-3 years it’s slow and building

    The way their system works for the first couple lessons was it taught 3 vocabulary words in the language.

    Then they say how to use those in a sentence. For example it was “take, open, close” for vocab. Then the sentences were “I take the book, I open the book, I close the book”.

    Then the next part of the first lesson give a teachers questions  to the students in the language and their responses. For example “what are you doing , pay attentiOn”.

    Then the last part of the lesson has a recitation in the language. Like counting to ten or a bible verse or the like. So it’s 4 parts to each lesson and as they go on they build on each other.

    Her second lesson had her saying open the pencil bag close the pencil bag take the pencil. then the next was open, close, take, sharpen. So each time they learn 1 or two more vocab words. The teacher responses build too. The second and third lessons of teacher responses went from what are you doing to what are you doing first, what do you do after. And the verses get harder and longer slowly and gradually like the lessons.

    I purchased the audio files with my book to ensure I was saying the words correctly having never heard or spoken French it is a great experience learning it together with her.

    I hope this helps somewhat.
