ok, i have seen some of the previous conversation of good book recommendations for students who are already well read:) and i wanted to recommend a new book series i read recently and found absolutely and surprisingly delightful! It is called the Charity’s Diary series, there are 3 books. author Elisabeth Allen.you can buy them on amazon, but they are a small small publisher, maybe even selfpublished?, so probably no bookstore carries them….
anyway, the books:
Just Like You is first, then No Matter What and For Life and For Eternity.
the main character is a young woman, just out of university and trying to figure out what God wants her to do with her life. figuring out relationships, but in a very posititve, very encouraging way. she was homeschooled as a girl, and through the books is often helping her younger siblings with their very charlotte mason sounding homeschool work:) these books have an awesome message to share, but are in no way preachy or at all your typical “christian” novel, which i personally greatly appreciate. but yes, they are VERY christian. these are books that make you think, evaluate your values and views on life, especially as an unmarried christian young person, and there are so many wonderful references to the classic heroines of literature(Anne, Molly Gibson, Polly from an Old Fashioned Girl etc)! i personally just found them so engaging and very very well written. and i could totally see my young adult self in her characters. wow!
as an aside, the author is a personal penpal (homeschooled)friend of mine who lives in Great Britain (giving a delightful british feel to the novels…a nice change for this american:) these are her first novels ever, yet, i cannot compliment enough her writing style.
Even as a mother of three, i greatly enjoyed these books and will be rereading them soon!
while there is nothing in these books that would be considered inappropriate whatsoever, i would probably recommend these for age 15 and older….
