We tried Tell Me More, Destinos, and a local class before finally going back to La Clase Divertida Online. IMO there is no way to do a foreign language outside of a group unless the parent has strong knowledge of the language themself. I have quite a bit of Spanish background, but it was a lot to keep ahead on refreshing my knowledge so I wouldn’t teach her something incorrectly. La Clase Divertida has been a wonderful experience for our dd15. She will be going on with Spanish III next year.
The class meets 2X a week for 1 hr. 15 mins. The course includes class time with Senor Gamache, lab work, work text exercises and tutor are matched up from the classes above for assistance if needed. Senor Gamache does all the planning, teaching and grading. I would highly recommend looking into this. It is $350 per year, which is actually less than any 1X a week class I have found. http://www.thefunclass.com. They are also at lots of the homeschool conferences if you can get to one.
I’m bumping this because I need something for my highschooler as well. We are using The Learnables right now but I’m not sure if that is going to be enough for high school. And, I don’t think I can afford $350 🙂
Currclick has Spanish classes for less than that. You might look into those. I will probably be using them with my youngest. My kids really prefer to have a live class for a living language. My son has had several other language classes at Currclick and liked them very much.
