Has anyone used a rewrite of sorts of the Language Lessons by Emma Serl? Or have you all used the original? I am talking mainly about the one sold by Living Books Curriculum.
HI, NIna, I responded to your other post regarding the different chioces for your children’s ages, in case you missed it.
I use the original with the Teacher’s Guide from Lost Classics. First of all, buying the original hardback with the TG for 2 yrs. is far less expensive than the workbooks at LBC. Secondly, we don’t write out the questions and rarely do mine write out anything in PLL. 75% of PLL has been done orally and when it is written, they just use the hardback to see the questions and write in a lined notebook specifically set aside for PLL or ILL. Sentences with blanks, they do write out the entire sentence. I can be a lot more flexible with directions, instead of what the worktext tells you to do in LBC. There also seems to be more grammar instruction for the teacher’s teaching needs in the Lost Claisscs TG, but that’s just a perspective from the download I’ve seen. I wanted that extra info.
With ILL, again, one hardback and one TG for 3 yrs., writing answers in a lined notebook, instead of three separate workbook purchases at 22.00 each. Besides, I have 2 children using them, so I’d either have to copy the LBC spiral workbook or buy one for each, upping he costs even more. Mine just use the hardback at alternating times. Plus, the Lost Classics TG has a lot more explanation that the free one available. Plus, mine have had no problem seeing the illustrations in the hardbacks.
I bought both of my hardbacks used and my TG’s new but here’s a price breakdown for new only at Amazon-
-PLL hardback new $10.17; TG-$11.86 for 2 yrs. ; with LBC-$ 26.00
-ILL hardback new $10.17; TG-$12.21 for 3 yrs.; with LBC for one child, 3 yrs.- total $$66.00 (without adding the cost for the 7 yr. old coming up behind)
Thanks Rachel. I did see your other post and I commented back. Thank you so much for your help. I just wasn’t sure what difference there would be other than writing in the ones from LB’s. Thanks again. Your info has helped alot!!
