    Sonya,

I remember seeing your BOC at a seminar and that it was filled with lists, but there was an organization system to the lists. I, too, am a list maker and am about to begin a family BOC and was wondering if you could describe your method and perhaps, post a picture.

    Thank you,

    Christie

I’m happy to describe it, Christie.

Left-hand page contains events with dates that I want to remember. They are listed in chronological order. So when I’m entering one, I try to place it on the page about where it would fall. For example, if it’s a 750 BC event, I place it about halfway up the page. If it’s a 1990 event, I place it pretty close to the bottom of the page. (Don’t forget to think backwards for the BC pages; larger numbers go closer to the top of the page. 🙂 )

Right-hand page contains my list of people who lived during that era. I’m not a big one for exact birth and death dates, so I just list the people’s names, and maybe a short reminder description if it might not be obvious to me later who that person was.

On that right-hand page I also put a list off to the right-hand side (and in a different color ink) of the titles of books that I’ve read that are set in that century. They may not have been written in that century, but if the story line takes place during that era, I list it.

Can you picture it in your head? I’m not sure how I would upload a picture of it, but if that would help, I’ll ask Doug. 😉

I’d love to see an actual example, since I will be starting one in the fall. Please, Doug?

Doug can do anything..I am sure if there is away Doug can figure it out!! 😆

Sonya so am I understanding it correctly that when you open up your BOC binder you have a full two pages per century on both sheets but on the lefthand side you have the events listed and on the right hand page you have the people and books.

We are starting a family BOC this year too and I am such the visual person and also a type A person who wants to know I am doing it right from the beginning..I know that “right” doesn’t always have to be the same for everyone..but when something has been done well I would like to replicate it as much as possible.

    Thanks,

    Shelly

    Sonya,

Your description is what I needed to remember, but I think a photo would be worth a thousand words for those who haven’t seen it yet. 🙂 Sorry, to add one more to-do to your list (or maybe Doug’s). 😳 You guys are all the best!

Thanks once again to your great ideas, we’ve added a page to our site that will give the details of my BOC as an example along with a picture. Smile

    Thanks Sonya,

I just finished printing our family BOC. And I am excited to get started. I can;t wait to fill in the people and dates we focused on in the past few months.

You’re great Sonya! Thank you for posting. I printed out the BOC sheets from SCM at the beginning of the year and put them in binders, but I just didn’t get around to using them. I may print out the characters and do it at the end of the year as a review.

    Blessings!
