    I’m just curious why you chose not to include Vol 1 in Modern Times??  Wondering if it’s significantly different or less necessary somehow or what?  Just curiousity, not criticism here!!  I’m debating whether to keep using it or not, and thought it might shed some light for me if I understood your choice just to use Vol 2.  Thank you!!

    Good question. The reason is that I became aware of that series after I had written the Early Modern handbook, so it was too late to include it until we do a revision some day. My 16yo dd is doing that time period now, and we have added Volume 1 to her reading. (We omitted Boys of ’76 to make it work, in case you’re wondering.)

    Thank you!  We’re just having a really hard time following it, so I’m trying to decide what to do about it and whether we’re likely to have the same trouble with the next one and I need to consider a substitute for that as well.

    For the record…I love the book!  And hope I can read it on my own some day…it just seems to assume a greater level of background knowledge than we have right now.
