Sonya or anyone, I have a question about exams

    This question is a little silly, but i’d really love to know how/if you do exams? I guess what i’m really wondering is what week do you do them, I know that CM breaks her year down into 12wk. terms and i’m wanting to know if you/we do exams the 12th week or if you add in a 13th week for exams? I’m so sorry if this is hard to understand, i’ll try to explain better if you need me too. Thanks

    I do them on the 13th week. It’s an “off” week for us as we school 6 wks on and 1 wk off year round for the most part. Though this can be totally dependent upon how you set up your schedule. I also have dd show an example of any handicraft that she has made, sing a hymn she has learned (folk song too, if we’ve learned one), recite poetry and scripture she’s been working on, read aloud as elocution practice, play a piano piece she’s enjoyed from the term, etc. We try to do this with another CM family as a celebration of the term when we can.

    Having just facilitated an all day SCM seminar yesterday, here is Sonya’s answer from the DVD – ask 2 or 3 open ended question about the books that you have covered during that term.

    Christie, thank you so much for your response. I’ve decided that we will be going 6wks. on and 1 wk. off year round and we’ll do our exams on the 13th wk as well. Would you mind telling me how much time you take off at Christmas? Thanks

    Hi Des,

    We usually take a couple of weeks off at Christmas and another couple in either the spring or fall. We live in FL and the weather is more pleasant then. We also take off here and there when we need to, but generally it’s about 6 wks on and 1 off.

    Thank you so much!!! I’ve been thinking about doing this for a long time now, but your post gave me to courage I needed to go ahead and try it. I was also wondering if you have something like an official start date to start your new school year. I was thinking that once our year ended on the 29th, we’d take a week off and go 6 more wks., I’d count that as our summer term, but we’d have our official start date, for the new year (where we move on to the next grade and whatnot) in the middle of August.
