Sometimes I want to go live on a deserted island. Culture, you know.

Desert island?  Totally agreeing, I often want to go too.  Then I remind myself that since the sin is in my heart, it comes along anyway.  Think Cain and Abel.  Makes me long for heaven more.

It’s everywhere because sin is everywhere. It’s the fall of man. Jesus is the good news!

You are not alone in seeing all the junk and feeling discouraged. We have to make sure and do our pool time when the teens are usually gone, late evening or early morning. The music is still there, but I’d rather my kids be with us as they are exposed than without us. They need to know a little bit what’s out there so they aren’t completely shocked later. 🙂

We listen to all different genres of music. A favorite right now is Jackie Evancho. Now that child is talented, and has some wonderful lyrics. Let’s hope she can stay that way. Hollywood is powerfully corruptive for anyone who suddenly finds fame.

Jeaninpa, point well taken. Sin would follow us to the desert island in our own hearts. However, the culture of that island would be different which would be a plus. You’re right, though, what I truly long for is heaven.

What a great opportunity for the kingdom of God these moments can be. Not just for our own families but for theirs.

In situations similar to this I have walked up to parents and sincerely complemented them on their childs dramatic, vocal or artistic ability and then told them about our fine arts program at church, asked them if they had a church that they attended, and then invited them and their family to come and check out the praise and worship, dramatic, dance, and art teams of children that are their childrens age during every sunday service.

I make it sound like a lot of fun (because it is), tell them how well I think their child will fit in and enjoy displaying their “skills” with the other kids, and then tell them what a difference my church community has made in our lives and the lives of our children.

I keep is as short or long as needed and then hand them a church bulletin, church invitation card or church business card (that I always try to keep in my purse) and will sometimes write my number on it and tell them if they would like to sit with a family they “know” the first time they come, to give me a call and I’ll meet them in the front.

I love these opportunities to reach out, compliment peoples children, and invite them into something that can change their lives and their eternity and the legacy that they leave their children.  I believe that sometimes, God puts us in situations to be a light and to continue the mission that Jesus started (and continues) while on earth.

~~For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17

~~… “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:16

I love these verses because they help me to remember my reason for being here in this place and this time.  To be a light and to help bring others to Jesus. And to remember that each day that I leave my house, I am entering the Mission Field. And to model for and teach  my children how to do the same. Many times I have wanted to move to Montana and build a cabin. Many, many times.:)  But how blessed we are to have Him and His teachings!  My pastor always asks us, “How many people will be in heaven in part, because of you?”  Gives me chills to think about the daily opportunities 🙂
