And, except for three of our six hermit crabs, all girl pets. 3 dogs, 1 cat, 6 hermit crabs….oh, and 1 male Betta….lots of estrogen running around here…lol
Someone said they adopted most of their children….we have always wanted to, but the cost seems to be a huge hindrance for us….any advice? How have you managed to adopt so many in five years? We would love more children, but my having any is probably not medically advised…..
Toni, I think, asked about adopting and the cost. If you adopt within the states, you could contact a department of children’s services worker. That person could explain the costs better than I could. We adopted our little Guatemalan princess for less than $2000. Her actual adoption costs were somewhere around $25,000. We contacted a group called Life Song for Orphans. They give matching grants and interest free loans, and many people can pay them back with tax rebates. They look at adoption, not as a personal addition to the family, but as a mission to be the hands and heart of God to orphans. It’s a mission opportunity and has greatly blessed not only our precious adopted children, but also the rest of our family. If you want more info, please feel free to contact me privately.
…and I thank the Lord each and every day! Oh, and we live in Hawaii (for that I thank the Lord too). My husband has been in the Air Force for 23 years now.
We have three wonderful blessings. My oldest dd is always praying that God would put more than just one baby in mom’s tummy. That would be fun. 🙂

Toni–
We’ve adopted 5 (going on 6) of our children as a direct result of fostering. We started out just trying to adopt one girl from DFPS but were given custody of my nephew. In the middle of that adoption, we were given a profile from a girl in Amarillo, we transitioned and fell in love, then were told she had a brother, it was adopt both or neither (kinda sly on their part, ya think). We took them both and so jumped from a family of 4 to a family of 7 within 6 months. A year later we were fostering a boy, he was reunified with bio-mom, returned to care with little sister attached, so we adopted them both. Our last child was placed with us at 10 days old, returned to bio-mom at 9 months, returned to us at 16 months so now we’re pending his adoption. Fostering can be heart-wrenching at times (especially when they leave) but we trust God to bring us children who will be great additions to our family. The cost of adoption is negotiated in Texas — the state reimburses $2500 for adoption costs and so far none of our adoptions have cost us more than that. So, we don’t even see any of the money as it goes directly to the lawyer. Truthfully, after this adoption, we are probably done—need to raise them now! E-mail directly if you’d like, adopting in Texas (from what I’ve experienced) has been a lot easier than adopting out of state.
