Just thought I’d post that the website where I gets my soap nuts is having a half off soap nuts sale until midnight tonight. I got 640 loads worth for $28!!! The sale price is not shown in this link, but if you add it to your cart, it will show up there – no promo code needed.
OK Heather, teach this old woman some new tricks will you lol! What are soap nuts and how do they work? I use OxyPrime and Oxy Boost by Natural choices or occasionally Charlie’s Soap in my HE Machine – but I am curious what these nuts are. Linda
The soap nuts website above has all sorts of info about soap nuts. I put 4-5 in a muslin bag and throw it in the bottom of my washer. It is good for about 5 washes. It has a built in fabric softener so none of that is needed. They work great! I have even started making my own soap nuts concentrate for household cleaning. They are antibacterial, HE safe, septic safe and you can put them in your compost (or so I hear). They are berries from a tree in India and have been used for hundreds of years. I’ve used them for 3 years and will never buy laundry detergent again. They even work on our GA red clay!!
Hope this helps some! This would be a great time to try them out. You’ll be hooked!
I am new to this board – but am an experienced soap nuts user! I was running low- your message about the sale was right on time! Thank you! They really work and its so nice not to use harsh detergents in our laundry. We also use these Static Eliminator sheets http://www.staticeliminator.ca/page/page/363949.htm
Be careful using these with cloth diapers though – they don’t work well with Bum Genius One Size diapers. They nearly ruined mine and I had to strip them a ton and stop using soap nuts. We had been using cloth diapers for two years when we tried soap nuts, so the only change at that time was the nuts. The company did not agree, but within one week every diaper (more than 50) were repelling all liquid.
Sigh.
We WILL go back to using soap nuts when we’re finally done cloth diapering – in a decade or so…LOL!
Good warning Tristan we use cloth female pads so I don’t need a problem like that – I find Oxyprime work fine for those. Maybe Soapnust will have to wait, the cloth pads are too expensive to ruin. Linda
Tristan – that’s CRAZY!!! I have a friend who swears by them for all her laundry including cloth diapers and I just bought a bunch. Haven’t used it yet, but I’m going to use with caution, starting with my pre-folds which are cheaply replaced if that happens. How many were you using? Your post caused me to do a search online and I haven’t found any similar stories, though there were several from people that were disappointed with their stain removal ability – I just sun them when we have stains. We have several BG one size, so I definitely plan on proceeding with caution!
Thanks!
Rebekah
