one notebooking page has taken 45 minutes to complete! Attitudes are pretty good, though..even though this morning when reminding we are starting were big sighs!

They have a break right now…we might get finished by 3! 🙂 And I am doing smaller chunks!!

It is supposed to be in the high 60’s to 70’s here by the end of the wk. So, I told them if we do a good job in school we could go to the park on Friday. They were very excited..it has been chilly here..not too bad though. Hopefully, that will be an incentive! 😉

    How is your first day???

Patience patience patience!! 🙂 I am saying that to myself!! LOL

First day back here, too. Ds10 has a yucky cold. Dd13 has a new puppy to take care of….told me it’s like a new baby (it is) but new moms don’t have to do school and people bring them meals:) Not as productive as I’d like, but otherwise o.k.!

Actually, it has gone pretty well.  It is 12:30 here, and we are just done.  Delta did a full schedule EXCEPT German – I figured we would skip that for today….)   It is Echo’s birthday, so she had a light day  (1 reading, scriptures, math, copywork).  Foxtrot did lesson 100 of 100 EZ lessons!!!!  and she did math too.

Now I have to decorate a cake (which I baked late last night) and we also have swim lessons.  SIGH

Wish I could say it was going well.  It so far has been one of our worst days.  It is almost 11:00.  DD2 (7) is doing well and almost done.  DD1 (9) is having a terrible attitude!!  She is always the one with the terrible attitude.  She has spent most of the morning in time out for her attitude.  I really don’t know how to get past the attitude thing.  This is the way it has been since she started school and it really drains me.

Math page: counting, shapes, colors, adding depending on age.

    History with family

We still want to read a few chapters in Winnie the Pooh today, probably this afternoon, and do family scripture study.

Since then kids have crafted, sewed, played Lego, etc. I went grocery shopping with oldest during naptime while hubby and other kids rested. 8yo got allergy shots today too.

After finally being able to combine my 9 and almost 7 year olds, school has become more simple in the mornings! Yay!!!!

    Together:

    Math facts

Recitations (they listen to prepared recordings on the iPhone, HUGE help!)

Science and narrations (thank you SCM for the Outdoor Secrets audio, they listen while I prepare other school)

Spelling (they dictate to each other their words to work on, double bonus! 😉

Then on to other independent things while I work with dd3 for a few minutes on letter song, etc.

I usually pick up my ds13 from his two classes by 11:00 a.m. and then we do read alouds and/or history at lunch.

All in all, a great schedule for us so far.

Ok, with Tristan’s more detailed report – I have a couple of minutes… so I’ll say what my kids did too….   We try to do most things independently for mom’s sanity (and my health issues)

oh yeah – since then I’ve made icing for the cake, gotten frustrated because it is a bit “melty”….   Done the first coating of icing and got colour ready for details – put cake and mixed icing in fridge to set up a bit….

Kids – after they played for a bit, I let them put on one show (to try to not have 4 kids crowded around me when I’m decorating the cake – and they also decorated little pieces of cake (bits that were cut off to level the cake) and ate them.  They are now outside (under protest)

We had planned to school through the week before Christmas, and start back last week. The past month turned into a whirlwind of emotional stress that included an unexpected death in dh’s family, unexpected things on my side of the family, my ds developing asthma, and such. The school shooting last month was also a difficult thing for me to absorb. We stopped for Christmas + life break mid December and just started back today. I am especially thankful to homeschool since there has been freedom to put our family life before the school schedule, and to take my time to start back when I was ready. Today was a great day, my ds learned “How the rhinos auras got his skin” according to Kipling, and my 4.5yo dd read her 2nd “I See Sam” book.

Going well here – we’re back on full schedule.  Even made it to the dentist & grocery shopping (and town is 1/2 hour away!).  Supper is made; younger children are playing happily.  Music practice has yet to occur for older kids.  Afternoon chores are almost done.

My username is for the days when we have six children with a gastrointestinal virus and must share two toilets (that was last month, don’t ask about those days!!)

This is our 2nd week back, also. We completed everything on our schedule except literature (Little House series) w/ my 7yo. He did listen in on our Bible reading, The Great Turkey Walk chapter, and short poetry readings, so I guess I can read his lit to him later 🙂

I don’t know if I’d call it a long day, meaning, a tiresome day, but we started somewhere around 8:30/9:00 and finished our day around 4pm w/ a tiny bit of instrument practices. That time period does include lunch and several breaks, so it’s not a straight 6 1/2 hours of “school” time.

House is picked up, laundry semi-caught up, dinner’s about to be started, can’t complain. Overall, we had a good day!

That should say 7 1/2 hours, but it didn’t seem that long…..hmmm. I think we ended at 3 & had a last minute music practice with mom at 4pm.

Our days always seem long, especially if we do all that is scheduled and do it well.
