    Especially on windy days… 8-/ So for those of you who only wear skirts, what do you do for bike riding? We want to go as a family, but all I have are an old pair of jeans I keep around for working on ladders and sometimes in the garden. Help?

    I have a friend who prefers to wear skirts almost all of the time (for her, they are more feminine, not too form-fitting), but she also likes the freedom to climb a tree with her children, etc., without worrying about what is the view from the ground up.  She keeps a couple of old, thin sweatpants that she cut to knee-length and then hemmed.

    I think I would probably opt for just a pair of capris, though, because I wouldn’t feel comfortable with two layers of waistbands….I feel “thick” enough as it is, LOL!

    Actually, I just recalled a dearly departed friend of mine who always wore skirts and often rode her bike. She used to just straddle her bike, then she would tuck all of the fabric she could in between her knees & thighs, kind of wrapping them around and hiking it all up to just below the knees. Then she sat down & made sure everything was tucked under.

    It looked a little messy, but as a 40-something single woman who was devoted to the Lord and to modesty, she had such sage wisdom. She used to say, “I don’t care how it looks–I’m not one of those sassy little tarts who keep shakin’ their short-shorts trying to get the attention of some man….the wrong kind of man!”

    Ive been bike riding in a skirt for years. If you choose a bike with a bar that curves down and back in the old fashioned manner rather than a straight bar angled back it is easier. I also have a “bike riding skirt” and it is a denim skirt that comes a few inches below my knees, is not full, and has no slit. I also had a heavier cotton skirt I liked that came to mid calf. Just make sure it isn’t too light of a fabric, too short, or too full. A moderate A line with heavier fabric is good. I also like to look cute on my bike and not like a bag lady but that is optional lol.

    My girls wear shorts under their dresses in the summer for things like bike riding and climbing monkey bars.

    Also, perfecting the art of tucking your skirt a little under each thigh makes a nice downward crease that resists wind!

    I wear skirts either shin length or right under knee length (for less windy days) while my girls wear shorter skirts with shorts underneath them. I do wear capris from time to time but also prefer just skirts as I feel more feminine and modest.

    @Tara,

    Yeah, I get it about the “bag lady” look….kind of describes my bike-riding friend’s look!
