Hi! What suggestions do you have for my 10 year old son who will often skip little words when he is reading or rearrange words in the sentence? This drives me insane! Is this normal or potentially a sign of some dyslexia? Any tips for kids who do this?

Hi, in my opinion it could be mild dyslexia. There are lists of symptoms if you Google it.

You can increase his reading aloud time and correct him as you go, gently, such as, “Your mind is playing tricks on you. Try this part again.”

Look up reading fluency for more information and ideas. My son has trouble with big words, so I cover up all but the first syllable, then the next and so on. Be sure to praise his efforts and reassure him. Some children are sensitive to correction in their reading aloud.
