I was a single parent for 8 years with my older 2 kids, now graduated. It was hard, and we struggled at times. Home ed wasn’t as main stream back then. However it was totally a blessing to them and to me, and yes, I was called by God to home school. 🙂
I have been a single parent for nearly 8 years. My daughters are 16 & nearly 14 and have been homeschooled all of their lives. My son, age 15, has been attending school out of the home since last year–he has autism, and he went to live with his dad recently. It has taken quite a bit of stress off of me (and the girls) at this time.
It is very tough to make ends meet and balance everything in life, but we have also been richly blessed. God has been with us through it all, and I keep telling those who would suggest that I “put the kids in school and go get a full-time job” that since God opened the window to homeschool, I will keep doing it unless He closes that window. I keep feeling that fresh breeze!
I feel so encouraged to know I am not the only single parent doing Charlotte Mason homeschooling. I am a single parent by choice, have two adopted daughters. The older child was in a private school through 5th grade. I find homeschooling a lot less work and I am enjoying it very much. Due to my work schedule we have to be flexible, but it’s working well so far.
Thank you everyone for sharing. God bless your school year!
