I was just wondering if anyone has ever used a curriculum called Sing Spell Read Write with their special needs children? I have a 5 year old nonverbal autistic child that I’m trying to teach to read and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this curriculum and if it’s any good?

My son is HFA, with Semantic-Pragmatic Disorder and ADHD. SSRW has been a blessing to us. The colorful pictures and songs are great. I don’t have him do as much of the writing stuff, and have been reminded that I don’t need to worry about that now. He loves the songs and we all sing them. He’s doing really well with it, but it didn’t click and he didn’t start reading until earlier this year *he just turned 7). I hope this helps somewhat 🙂

We use it and my girls have done very well with it – neither one of them has any special needs, but after trying Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons – they both hated it, I pulled this out – my grandma gave it to me – she used it to teach me to read when I was 4! So it stands the test of time! We just use the songs and the reading books and the workbooks – gasp!, but don’t do things like spelling and grammar. It’s been great – the girls LOVE the songs and the games and I find it’s easy to use.

My kids LOVE it! It is teacher intensive, but you can make the lessons short and simple as you need. The music really engages the kids and makes it extra fun. The games are great too, my dd loves getting a treat for winning the letter-sound bingo game. 🙂

We use/d it as well. I am using some of it with my last dc to learn letter sounds, etc.
My kids always enjoyed it.
