I want to read Winnie the Pooh this year with my boys. Can’t believe I’ve never actually read it! Anyway, is there a version that is better than the other? Should I try to find a vintage copy? I’ve seen some complete books that were printed more recently. Are they ok? I don’t want to get something abridged or incomplete. And which is better – color pictures or black and white? Or is there even a choice in the newer books?
Sorry for all the simple questions on a basic book but I want to buy a keepsake-type copy.

I personally had a difficult time reading that book aloud. We loved the audio version, he did awesome job with the voices!

I’m glad to hear I wasn’t the only one who had trouble reading it aloud. Maybe we should try the audio version. 🙂

The audios that Rachel linked are great! We check them out from the library often. I also found them difficult to read aloud, but after hearing Peter Dennis a few times I could probably do better.

I am terrible at reading winnow the pooh! I feel like I don’t even know how to read when I try!

I just checked out the CD version that was linked to by Rachel. One of the reviewers said that you have to have the volume turned up to hear some parts, and then other parts end up being scary loud. I don’t want to de-rail the topic, but is that a CD player problem?? We’ve had that issue with Jim Weiss recordings in the car. In order to hear well, the volume must be up. Then he gets excited and we all jump out of our seats. I’ve had the problem with other narrators, too (one, a Just So Stories CD), so I’m sure it’s not just Jim Weiss. How do we fix that?

We LOVE the Peter Dennis recording. We laughed so hard at Piglet I almost ran off the road. :). I haven’t noticed the volume problem with these yet. We’re about half way through. But I know what you’re talking about. We’ve had others like that.

I can’t wait to order these audio cd’s! We are huge Pooh fans here, the books were a challenge to read aloud when we first began. My daughter(10) will enjoy these very much. I think these will also become a lovely Christmas gift for the grandchildren, and a few more children in the family as well.
Thanks so much for sharing, I am only just beginning to appreciate audio books. I rarely think to look for them.

Robin, wait til you hear Roo’s voice! I nearly ran off the road at, “He’s taking my medicine!” We love the audio of poems too. We were at the zoo a couple weeks ago & when looking at the bears, quoting, “Bears, I’m stepping on the squares!” and what we could remember.

Oh my goodness, YES about Roo’s voice at that time! Just now I laughed out loud remembering (and my children just asked what I was laughing about and they repeated it, too).
I hope ya’ll order them who have not heard them.
