Wondering if anyone has done sign language for a high school credit? My family would like to do this but I’m not sure what we could use to accomplish this. Anyone have any experience?
We used Signs for His Glory, both levels. It is a DVD and book for all ages. That way, the whole family took sign together and practiced. It includes character qualities and is Christian, so it was Bible time too! I bought it at Rainbow Resource. I followed that with videos and a sign dictionary from the library. My dd did very well and learns on her own for fun now. We attend a church with sign interpretation, so she watches and aspires to be an interpreter someday. Our local deaf school has free lessons, but we haven’t done that.
How long would you say it takes to complete a level? We’ve done all the Rachel Colmen Vidoes already and practice those daily. Wondering if you felt both were necessary for 1 full credit or if 1 level would be enough for 1 credit? Your thoughts?
Level 1 is a prelesson + 10 weeks. Level 2 is 10 weeks. If you have already done some sign, you may have a lot of overlap and fly through level one. Both levels plus extra practice and/ or library materials are needed for highschool credit IMO, unless you find a local, fluent in sign to practice with.
We loved this course and were sad when it was done.
