i’ve settled on Mara Pratt’s series. Finally, a decision! LOL  I plan to add supplementary books as well. i would like biographies and historical fiction for read alouds.  i, of course, have found many titles online and was hoping to get a list of some of your favorites.  TIA! 🙂

A good place to start is Beautiful Feet.  I love all of Beautiful Feet’s Early American Primary books.  We can get them from our library.

thanks!  i know the D’Aulaire biographies get rave reviews.  i have never met anyone irl who has read them, so i was hesitant at first.  thanks for the reassurance that those bios are good ones. 🙂

David Adler’s Picture Book biographies are good, too.

Benjamin West and His Cat, Grimalkin is one of my favorite artist biographies – and it covers American History as well. My kids and I loved this book.

Bethlehem Books has excellent History selections/Historical Fiction for the most part, but based on actual history
