A bit of a weird question, but does anyone know a really healthy shampoo brand which sells worldwide (also here in Europe). Just found out about silicon and all this stuff and am at a loss at which shampoo to use on my kids now. Anything you can suggest which is without hazardous ingredients?

    THank you in advance,

I was gonna post a shampoo Q today also, how funny. With all of the same concerns, looking for shampoo that sells by the gallon.

Have you considered making your own? Recipes aren’t difficult, and it may take some trial and error to find a recipe that works for your hair type, but it saves money and keeps you from having to find one with all the “perfect” ingredients…which is impossible. Check Pinterest for TONS of recipes and ideas! Sorry, I don’t have a magical shampoo either!

What is a good recipe you ladies would suggest? How long can it be kept?

I love, love, love everything Bubble and Bee! http://www.bubbleandbee.com/ I am pretty sure they ship worldwide. If your area isn’t listed, email her and she will get back to you quickly. They have awesome customer service. I’ve been ordering from them for many years. I can’t vouch for the shampoo personally, as it has almond oil and I can’t use it, but it gets awesome reviews. Their pit putty is fantastic!!

Here is a simple recipe for natural shampoo made with coconut milk. Just be sure to get the unsweetened canned stuff & not the kind in the dairy carton, which has extra ingredients in it–not necessarily bad stuff, but thickeners & stabilizers (like xanthan gum and tapioca starch) that you don’t need for shampoo. If your hair is naturally oily, you might need to adjust which oil you use & how much of it.

Make sure you shake it each time before you use it. I have heard you can keep it in a bottle or jar in your shower for about a month, but we only ever made a small batch & didn’t use it for very long. I just can’t get my oldest daughter to take hold of the whole natural hygiene products idea. She wants to become a cosmetologist (she’s 16), and I feel the vacuum cleaner aimed at her by that industry already….LOL!

I think you all are inspiring me to make up another batch and start using it again. Here is the link to the shampoo recipe: http://wellnessmama.com/3701/natural-shampoo/.

I’ve made a liquid one using castile soap and liked it, but had to use a vinegar rinse with it (and with bar soaps that I’ve bought). But I recently made a bar shampoo with goat’s milk and it is amazing!

Birgit, what about Weleda?  They sell their shampoos in the U.S. and also in Europe.  They have a variety to choose from.  Or try Lavera.
