  • Anyone have a tried and true shampoo that works well for kids who swim regularly? My girls have light colored hair and I’m looking for one that removes chlorine and prevents green.

    Thanks!

You need to get a clarifyer (not just a deep cleanser). I’m sure there are some natural ones on the market, so any should do. They need to “chelate” the hair shaft. BAking soda is not a good option-it will wreck the hair when used as regularly as you’d need.

Also, prior to swimming, have them dampen their hair, spray on and comb through a leave-in conditioner. Then make sure they don’t let their hair dry before either rinsing it out or shampooing it. These steps will help reduce the green effect and the build-up of chorine.

growing up I always used Ultra Swim (I don’t know if they still make it). We had a chlorine pool and I was in it, and the one at the Y almost daily. That was what worked best for me. I also did conditioner in my hair before I swam, I found if I put it in dry hair, it worked better for me – and if I forgot that, I’d hose it down first. Now I have all boys, and don’t have to think about that so much anymore 🙂 My friend was over the other day with her sweet little long haired blondie – whose hair was literally green. The perils of being a woman huh? Hope you find something that works!

I just glanced online and apparently Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and CVS carry it – so hopefully you can find some. I would get the shampoo and conditioner.

    Swim Cap????  Tehe he

If you are truely desperate and want it all gone. I would wait till the end of the swim year when you close your pool.

Then, I would buy a perm. Put the solution threw the hair. If she has straight hair then it should be fine. Don’t put it in rods or anything. Just put it in a cap for about 5 minutes. Rinse all of the solution out and put on the second solution.  Leave on for however long the solution says for bottle # 2 (Usually 5 min) Then, get a really good conditioner like Biolage. Oh, and I would see if you can get the perm solution at a Sally’s or a professional type Beauty supply store.

I would only do this once a year at the end! so that you don’t  damage the hair any further. If her hair is really dry and brittle then I would be very cautious and make sure she has a good haircut after you are done.

This will get it out as well as any iron. I will repeat again!  When you close your pool. So, you don’t further damage your DD hair.  Don’t leave it in very long. If she continues to swim it will continue to damage the hair and put the clorine back in the hair immediately after the first swim.

                                       Hope this helps

              Blessings on this endeavor!

Thanks ladies! I have bough swim caps already but still needed a really good hair product. My girls will swim throughout the fall at a facility and I’m hoping their hair can withstand it!

    Thanks again! 🙂

My hair dresser told me to do the following: Put some shampoo in your hand and then put about 1 t. of baking soda.  Wash as usual.  Then, I add 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar to a big bowl and fill with water.  I soak my hair in it for about 1 min.  Leave on 1 more min.  Rinse.  You can stop there but I usually (because I have really thick, curly, long hair) put conditioner on my hair and rinse.  I use it on my children too.  Works great!
