Hello ladies, I am in need of some advice please. I have a 12 yo son who is using one of Queen’s Language Lessons. We started CM style at the end of this past year and that is where I started him. I am wondering where I should go next with him. I looked at Serl’s books at Living Books and like the looks of it. I like Queen’s as well. But I read on SCM that they recommend Jr. Analytical Grammar for this year. I have no preference as I am not familiar with any of them all that well. Can you ladies give me any info that might be helpful?? Thanks in advance 🙂

If he’s already 12, then he’s late for the Serl’s; Serl’s ILL is ages 9-12.

I don’t know enough about Queen’s to recommend it or not. JAG/AG is popular for some and laborious for others. Another option you may not know about is Our Mother Tongue by NAncy Wilson, it also comes with an answer key. http://www.exodusbooks.com/details.aspx?id=5245

Here’s a previous discussion involving AG and OMT: http://simplycharlottemason.com/scmforum/topic/analytical-grammar-or-our-mother-tongue

I have personally decided on OMT when my son gets that old, but that will be after 2 yrs. of ILL and Latin. JAG and AG are different in style than OMT, so I guess it depends upon your style and his learning style. Perhaps there’s a friend that can let you borrow JAG before buying? LIke I sad, it’s is a personal prefernce between JAG/AG or OMT; I don’t really recall any others being discussed much here, though there may have been. Checking for reviews of each online to get a feel for the content may help, too.

Hope you find what you’re looking for!
