I am wondering how you handle scripture addresses in your scripture memory. It’s easy when it’s one verse, but what about chapters? For instance, we have memorized 2 John, but if I asked my kids to tell me what 2 John 1:4 says, they would not know what to say…. they know it, but don’t know it by the scripture address. What do you do?
When we memorize long passages, we also memorize the reference verse by verse. For example, we recently memorized Psalm 103:1-5. I taught the passage as a whole, but also went verse by verse so that the kids knew each verse and its number in the passage, if that makes any sense. I don’t know that I’ll ever have a reason to ask, “Ok, who can tell me what Psalm 103:4 says?” I’m much more excited about the fact that they know more than one or two verses. ha!
I’m not sure if I’ve answered your question or just confused you more. LOL
Thank you, Lindsey. So, you would you actually say “Psalm 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, [bless] his holy name. Psalm 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:….”
Sorry if this seems clueless… but, well, I am feeling clueless .
And, you’re right, I am more excited that they know their verses, but the question actually came from my son. He actually said he didn’t know any verses….
Anyway thanks so much for your reply.
Blessings, Monica
