Hello,
I’m implementing scripture memory this year and have been watching Sonya’s videos. I love the system but I have some questions. How does this work if you’re doing school 4 days a week? We won’t be reviewing any scriptures on Fri, Sat, or Sun. This will apply to the days of the month as well. We won’t be reviewing everyday of the month so many of those verses will never be reviewed.

For your weekly verses, just have four days instead of seven. For your monthly verses, instead of assigning dates, just put the monthly cards in a stack and each day you review them, review one (or two, or three, etc. depending on how many you have memorized) an put them in the back of the stack.
We do scripture memory at the breakfast table every morning instead of as a “school subject.” I want my son to know that memorizing scripture is a lifelong pursuit, not just something we do for the school years. I actually don’t assign days or dates either – it is easier for me to just rotate from the front to back of stacks. We are up to maybe five monthly verses a day, plus a weekly, an even/odd, and the daily.

Even/Odd
Days 1, 2, 3, and 4? Or you could go up higher, say week 1 days 1-4, week 2 days 1-4, etc. So you’d still review verses monthly but it wouldn’t be dependent on the date. I hope that makes sense. I am running on under 3 hours of sleep!

I’m embarassed to say that it doesn’t make sense. 🙁 It took a bit for me to figure out the system Sonya explained but I didn’t hear her discuss how to use it with 4 or 5 days days a week. I’m gathering that she does it every day. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think most families do it 7 days a week so there must be an alternate method. So you suggest doing 1 new verse daily, plus a verse that’s from the odd/even slot. Would you then do another verse from the week? That’s where I got lost.

Ok so you have the daily verses, the even and odd verses, then the way I wrote it above, you’re basically combining the Monday-Sunday and 1/31 cards, and label them 1-20 (or 24, 28, 32…)
Week 1 you’d do daily, odd and even, then the first 4 of the 1-20(or whatever multiple of 4 you choose) cards. The next week, daily, odd/even, and the 5-8 cards. Week 3, cards 9-12, and so on.
The verses would all be reviewed monthly but they wouldn’t match up to the date. Today is July 20 but you wouldn’t necessarily review from card 20. You’d be on cards from the second day of whatever week you’re in.
Let’s say your daily verse is John 3:16, odd is Like 4:4, and even is Genesis 1:31. Cards 1-4 are Philippians 4:13, 2 Cor 12:9, Nahum 1:7, and 1 Cor 13:8.
You’d recite John 3:16 Monday through Thursday. Luke 4:4 would be recited on the odd-numbered days, Genesis 1:31 recited even-numbered days. Monday you’d recite Phil 4:13, Tuesday 2 Cor 12:9, Wednesday Nahum 1:7, and Thursday 1 Cor 13:8.
The next week would be the same for the daily and odd/even, but the numbered cards would be different.

We do M-F. So I have the Daily, M-F, even/odd and then number 1-31. We do not review every single day of the month, only M-F. So days get skipped each month but different days so you would still review them all several times per year. For example if the 23rd of the month falls on a Sat we wont review it that month, but we will get it the next month. So I still keep 1-31 in the box, but 8 days will get skipped each month for weekends. Sometimes more because we aren’t perfect of course. But over the long term you are still reviewing ALOT and after 12 years of school that is a boatload of verses!
