I am setting up our Scripture memory box. I’m so excited about this. It will make our review so much easier and more consistent. I’m including our catechism questions as well. My 6yo is on question 27. However the earlier ones need lots of review and some he’s probably mostly forgotten. Where should they go in the box? Under odd/even, days of the week, numbered days?? If I make them too frequently, we’ll be spending forever going through them.
What about other things we memorize…poetry, for example. Is there a way to keep that in our memory? We are involved in Suzuki violin so we’re used to mastery learning. We can play from memory every piece we’ve learned. I’d love to have an easy way to review other memory work as well.
Would it work to put the Questions 1-26 in the Odd/Even days to begin with? Start with Question 1 and 2. When he’s got one, move it to Days of the Week and put a new review question into its place. That way you could still do the new question (27) in the Daily. It might get confusing. The other option is to just start with Question 1 in the Daily and work your way through them all. Yes, it will take a while, but the goal is memorizing for life, not necessarily speed.
I know some moms have several memory boxes: one for Scripture, one for poetry, one for Latin words, etc. Maybe you could do a music box and keep it near your violin practicing location.
Thank you, Sonya. Those are both good ideas. I may start with the first one and see how that goes. If not, we’ll start over with question 1. We actually review on and off. We learn these (and some scripture as well) set to music so sometimes I’ll just put the CD in while we’re driving to violin an hour away. So hopefully it won’t take as long to get these back as it seems. I love the memory box idea.
