Yes. I just looked over both of them and I think I’m going to cry. My health is just not good right now and this is exactly what I need. Simple.
I’ve been trying really hard to keep our plans at a minimum and not overload ourselves but after looking at the samples I see that I was still planning a bit too much. Not a lot, but still too much, for me.
Oh Happy Day! I just printed off the sample to look over later today. I am very glad I did not put in my order for ULW yet! What a blessing to have plans laid out!
Thank you Sonya, I know this must have been a very busy season for you.
This is wonderful! It probably is not something I will purchase because I’m pretty sure my favorite part of homeschooling is the planning. Buuuuuut I recommend SCM to as many people as I can and it will be a wonderful resource for somebody who wants a more “boxed” approach to homeschooling.
This is wonderful!! I am so glad that I still have three more kids, year 3 and under, that I get to use this with! So grateful. Because of this product, I will hopefully get to spend more time relationship building instead of planning. Thank you Sonya and the SCM team.
So, I am HEAVILY leaning towards making this purchase – I was just sitting down to map out next year so it comes at a great time. I have 2 questions.
1) How does it work when your children have read many of the literature books already. (5 of 7 books in grade 1-4) Would I just pencil in replacement books?
2) Does it have instruction to easily teach multiple ages/grades of children? (I have ages 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12 I’m working with) One reason I love SCM is that I can do so much as a family group.
Love the new lesson plan books, SCM team! So excited to purchase. I’m very excited to be making SCM plans for the fall…I was working part time and had made plans for Notgrass for simplicity, but I have decided to stop working and stay home again. I’m so excited for another SCM year! Just wondering, though…what made you decide to put grade levels on the Language Arts guides? My son is not yet reading fluently, going into 2nd grade, but fits more in Grade 1 samples. Just wondering why the grade distinction as opposed to just “levels”?
I’m glad the new lesson plan books look like they will be helpful for you, ladies! To answer your questions . . .

Yes, feel free to substitute different books.
2) Does it have instruction to easily teach multiple ages/grades of children? (I have ages 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12 I’m working with) One reason I love SCM is that I can do so much as a family group.
The Enrichment Studies are for the whole family to do together. Everyone can do the same picture study, music study, poetry, handicrafts, Scripture memory, etc. It’s your choice whether you want to read aloud the Younger Group literature selection or the Middle Group, based on the ages of your children.
Just wondering, though…what made you decide to put grade levels on the Language Arts guides? My son is not yet reading fluently, going into 2nd grade, but fits more in Grade 1 samples. Just wondering why the grade distinction as opposed to just “levels”?
We thought about doing Levels A, B, C, and D for those first three grades but decided that could be confusing. So we opted to use the grade labels but give two Tracks of reading plans in each of those books. Feel free to use the plans in the Grade 1 book if they fit your student best. By the way, the Track B plans in the Grade 1 book are the same as the Track A plans in the Grade 2 book; and the Track B plans in the Grade 2 book are the same as the Track A plans in the Grade 3 book. So feel free to level up or down as needed. Teach the child. 🙂
Thanks Sonya for answering my questions. I have one more.
My plan for this coming year had been to use your 106 Days of Creation Studies along with the Genesis through Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt. Now that I am planning on going with the Keep It Simple lesson plans (using the Genesis through Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt spine) should I still purchase the 106 Days, or will it be over kill. Thoughts?
The science lesson plans are sequenced in the Individual Studies books to allow you to do the same science course with all your elementary students together. The plans simply tell you to do the next lesson in your selected SCM science course. So feel free to use 106 Days if you would like to. Other options would be Pond and Stream, Outdoor Secrets, Learning about Birds, or Jack’s Insects.
I just ordered the Enrichment studies. I noticed that the first picture study is Rembrandt. I already have 3 different picture studies but have not used them yet. Can I just substitute an artist in the same era? Or substitute with any picture study? Would the lesson plan be the same i.e. the page numbers as in the other books that accompany the picture studies? I hope i am making sense. LOL
