I am leaning toward ordering the Individual Studies for Grade 1 which includes the lesson prompts for Delightful Reading, which I also need to purchase. I went to order DR and found this:
Out of stock. Stay tuned for an exciting new update to the Delightful Reading kit coming soon. Sign up for our mailing list to be notified when it’s available.
Any hint as to when this update might be shared? And, will the Individual Studies for Grade 1 be revised in light of the upcoming news?
Thank you so much, as always, for your graciousness.
Hi, Erin –
I’m working on writing an e-mail right now to give everyone a heads-up about the new Delightful Reading kits. As you probably know, Delightful Reading is really 3 stages: letters and their sounds, then word-building with basic phonics, then the actual reading lessons. The first two stages are described in the original Delightful Reading teacher book, but we thought it might be easier for everybody if those two stages were expanded more and made more ready-to-use like the current kit. So Delightful Reading is becoming three levels with three separate kits, one for each of those stages. The reading lessons kit will have the same lessons as the original kit. We will be giving lots more details once the kits are ready to be released. The pieces are trickling in from the printer; we’re just waiting until all the pieces arrive and can be assembled into kits. We’re hoping that will be a matter of just a few weeks.
Individual Studies, Grade 1, will be revised simply to specify which of the three kits we recommend in those plans: the third level, the one with the actual reading lessons. Everything else will stay the same; only where it said “Delightful Reading” previously, it will say “Delightful Reading, Level 3: From Words to Books” instead.
I hope I explained it clearly enough. Let me know if you have more questions.
Thank you so much, Sonya. I think this all makes good sense to me This is exciting! My last baby is learning to read and so I am waiting eagerly to hear when the revised DR and Ind Studies Gr 1 will be ready … thankfully I don’t need them until the fall. 🙂
You can jump in wherever your child is in the process, Melissa. If she is working on the letter names and their sounds, you would start with the Level 1 kit; if she already knows the letters and sounds, you would start with the Level 2 kit to work on basic phonics and word-building; if she knows basic phonics and can read simple words, you would need only the Level 3 kit to transition to reading sentences, paragraphs, and books.
