I am planning to use CM approach for our schooling starting in the fall. Our son will be in 5th grade. I am looking at the living science books listed in the curriculum guide and there are 7 books listed for 4th, 5th & 6th grade. Does this mean that you read two books a year or all 7 in one year– but then what would we read next year? Does anyone have any help in this area? Thanks.
I’ve used AO’s website to supplement our living books reading for Science. I have a 5th grader (will be 6th this July) and we usually stick to 2 books from the SCM Science book list, and then read the rest from AO’s science recommendations. You could easily stick to one or two of the books in the SCM curriculumn guide, but I have a science lover who devours everything I put in front of him. Hope that helped! And, by the way, if he’s going to LOVE a book, it’s going to be one that SCM recommended. He enjoys the books recommended by AO, but I usually need to enforce the one chapter at a time rule with books recommended by SCM.
