A couple of months ago I bought the new SCM Learning and Living DVD set.  I watched the first three and then our TV got broken.  We were just now able to replace it and also upgraded to a Sony Blu-Ray Disc/DVD player.  I put one of the seminar DVD’s in to play and it says that it cannot operate the disc and says it is unknown.  I tried one of the DVD’s that I had already watched and it says the same thing.  We have run other DVD’s on it and also play CD’s through it.  Are the SCM DVD’s just not compatible with my player or is there something I need to do?  I really want to finish them!!

First, check your DVDs and make sure they don’t have bad scratches on them. DVDs can have minor scratches and it won’t usually hurt anything. If you have some other player to test them on you could do that just to make sure, though you already know they played on your previous player so that may not tell you much.

I did some searching online and I see a lot of complaints about this kind of problem on Sony players. Sony suggests that you download and install the latest system software (firmware to ensure that the player is up-to-date on playback compatibility. My guess is this is a player issue and you may need to contact Sony tech support if it continues to be a problem.

My friend had a Sony DVD/Blue-ray player, and they had quite a few DVD’s that would not play. Older ones and brand new. She thought it was the DVD’s but turned out it was a player problem

The DVD’s aren’t scratched.  I put them in my computer and they played.  I guess I can finish them there, but the couch is a lot more comfortable than a wooden chair.

I’ll check to see if all the firmware is up to date.  Is there another brand of player that we would be better off with?  We won’t one that will stream Amazon Prime.  We’ve only had the player for a week and a half, so I could try returning it if need be.

We returned a Sony DVD/blue-ray player to Walmart over a month after we had it. It had a 60 day return on the item. Our problem with it was the streaming Netflix would just drop frequently, and require us to reboot it or put in all our internet connection information sometimes.. It worked great the 1st few weeks, then started acting up.

I know Panasonic makes a bunch of players with Prime streaming.
