I am looking at science programs for my rising 2nd grader. For a variety of reason I ordered Exploring Creation – botany, but now that I have it, I think its going to be a bit much.
Does CGC have “experiments”? I use the term loosly, but that is a request from my daughter, so I want it to be more than just reading and cut and paste kinds of things.
Can’t help you with the CGC question, but I would recommend you go to http://www.homesciencetools.com (I think that’s the right url) and sign up for their Young Science Explorers’ newsletter. Each month you will receive information and an experiment on a certain topic. (They’ve covered weather recently). I think back issues, or at least the experiments, can be downloaded from there, as well.
Kelly, have you looked at SCM’s 106 Days of Creation? It has lots of living book and “experiment” ideas! And, as you may know, 106 Days utilizes CGC but is not required for the younger ones. Blessings ~ Heather
I second Heather’s suggestion. We are still using 106 Days (we took our time) and still love it. Lots of living books, experiments (not too difficult, not too light either), videos, field trip ideas, sketches, CGC workbook pages, and Bible (how could I forget?). There’s probably more, but I’m suppose to be getting ready to leave the house:) We started this about 1 1/2 years ago (can be used for a years worth of science, no need to take as long as we have) so my kids were 9 1/2, 6 1/2 and 3. I could be wrong, they could’ve been younger.
Anyway, one of them was under 2nd grade and one a little above and one tagging along. I/we have really enjoyed this program. It has been instrumental, for me, in *seeing* what a family subject looks like CM style. Love it!
