My son is reading Outdoor Secrets and he does a nature journal but I would like to do something more for science. Since I am a single working mom, I would love to have a science curriculum that my mom could do w/ him while I am at work – some type of boxed set. I know that isn’t exactly CM, but I am looking for something that would be easy for her to do.
Are you using the Outdoor Secrets companion and books? In my opinion, it is fabulous and perfect for 1-2 grade.
If he is interested in experiments, try the Steve Spangler website and catalog. At this age it is totally unnecessary to line up everything. Let him play with nature and science and build a love for it.
I am not using the companion but will look into it. We are also reading Jack’s insects. I was looking for something w/ experiments because quite frankly, I am not a science person and not very creative. I also am not a go-with-the-flow kind of person and am looking to provide a little structure for him.
Thank you so much! I will check out your suggestions.
We love Outdoor Secrets and the companion. I highly recommend it. I have recently been looking at Elemental Science. Maybe that would interest you? I’m not sure how old your son is, but their Intro to Science is for K5/1st grades.
Have you considered Apologia? You might want to try that. It is CM friendly and Christian Book sells lab kits all put together for you. The lab kits look pricey at first but I think it is worth it for busy families. I have heard that Astronomy is a good place to start with younger kids. At age 6 you would probably want the Junior Notebooking Journal (instead of the regular one). Sale on these items ends tonight 3/15.
