Hi, wow we have been doing school for 6 weeks now and the Science sure isn’t getting any better!!! when a mom falls a sleep reading then you know its bad! 🙂 Any suggestions for a more CM approach? I have 2 dds age 9 and 12. Would love to keep them together. Is it horrible to just read good books? I don’t have time for experiment and quite frankly hate them. I do have a few books on my shelf, just not sure of the age range.

Venus among the fishes Scott O” Dell

Archimedes and the door of Science

    Along came Galileo

Many Burgess books : We’ve done the Burgess bird and Animal

Among the Night people, the forest people ect

So not sure if I need more?

I think those books look great! I know the Burgess books and the Among the… series could be considered lower elementary, but honestly I learn interesting facts from them! I would maybe supplement with Library books on subjects of interest and maybe videos. The Moody videos are free on youtube.

We simply read books and narrated for science all the way up to the 8th grade in our home school. My daughter began to keep a science notebook around the 6th or 7th grade. She draws pertinent charts, diagrams, and specimens in it. We also did lots of nature study.

It sounds like you have a great start with the wonderful books you listed!

Another idea if your girls want some hands-on activities are subscription boxes. Green Kids Crafts and Groovy Lab in a Box are just a couple examples. I think those would be easy enough for your daughters to do together independently of you.
