Any ideas for make my own science 7 yr girl and 9 yr boy?

Background: We’ve done Pond and Stream, outdoor secrets, and birds. I am planning to do outdoor secrets again 1 year from now with the little guy(4) but not this year. We have lots of books like lets read and find out, seymore simon, gail gibbons as well as some older age approprate All About books and Glen Rounds nature books.

I also have answers in Genesis Our Universe, Planet Earth, and Ecosystems. I kind of like the idea of using the texts at least some with the older one because of the Creationism in them.

We do nature study about 1x a week (at least look at it and talk…journaling is more sporatic 1-4 × a month).

We recently recieved a good microcope……I have too many options and I like a tidy plan. I even love to plan….I just need to stick to a plan and not over plan. Please help;)

One possible idea is to pick one of the Answers in Genesis texts to spread out for a whole year, then add in whatever living books you have that might go with the topic. I have the Ecosystems so I can use that as an example as I am familiar with it. When you do the desert say, bring in whatever books you have about desert animals, life in the desert etc. Maybe supplement with the library if necessary. Then for rainforests same thing. You could maybe even tie in nature study. Look for lizards, cactus, etc when you study deserts. Looking forward to more on this.

Thanks Crystal. I may do that. I remembered that i also have the Burgess Animal book and access to the seashore book…

Maybe I’ll use one of those for a “spine” and just read the AIG book with my oldest as “extra”…

If you want more structure, Train up a Child unit studies picks science topics for the year and cycles through 4 years. You could pick the year that matches your plans best. It’s very flexible.
