We use our playroom/computer room for our some of our family subjects. We have a child sized table for my younger dd’s to sit and do their wok while our 8 yr old dd sits at the kitchen table. We do science and art/drawing at the kitchen table. We read literature in our living room. I figure homeschooling is an extension of our family life so we just do our work where we are most comfortable and put it away when finished. I have each girls workbooks for math, copywork, reading, and my books stored separately in magazine holders from walmart and stacked on the top book shelf in the playroom. I store away art supplies, games, puzzles, and extra toys in tubs away in our pantry closet in the utility room off the kitchen.

I’m working on reorganizing and have decided to keep 4 yr old dd’s prek manipulative out where I can see them on the playroom book shelf or else I forget what I have for her that she can do. lol I’m not good with scheduling something special for her to do on a weekly basis, like counting objects or working on alphabet letters with games. I get so focused on the older two she just joins in and picks up everything basically. She counts because she does calendar with us, i.e. I’m also going to start switching toys around 2x per month and see how that goes instead of having a majority of the toys out (We have a play area in our basement as well.) They are blessed with many things from 4 sets of grandparents!

I’m kind of with you on this, Mrs. B. My kids would probably give me funny looks if I set aside one specific “school” room/area. Of course, if we had a different house with a spot for it, I’d probably designate a room with a table or two for seatwork and projects that need that kind of space, but right now we just use the kitchen table. When I have to separate them for whatever reason, we also use a portion of the dining room table and a small folding table (like a tv tray table) in the living room. My oldest likes to read her literature and history in her room. For read alouds, it’s either gathered around the kitchen table with lunch or in comfy spots in the living room.
We do have a spot for the computer and a file sorter to keep papers and things “in progress” plus a tall, 2-door cabinet for books and some supplies. The cabinet used to be set up with a separate shelf for each of the three children, but now that we combine some subjects, they just know which section has their books vs. the family books.

2flowerboys, I found the map at Office Depot of all places. It is laminated already. I love it. I don’t have the US one b/c we already had one but they had it as well. They have it on-line here but I bought it in-store:

I too love you school room very nice! We have a smaller school room where I keep all our books and things however we school at the kitchen table, would love for my room to be a little bigger, but it works for us for now! Loved how organized you are!
