We only do nature study once per week… the other days we play outside. And they BEG for history. Lol Science is 3-4 days per week, depending on what’s going on.

I don’t know if you would want to, since your husband is home for lunch, but perhaps you could do your art study/ poetry/map drill during lunchtime? I like to do any art/ poetry during snacktime (for my boys they are much younger so we never go to past lunch unless we were out that day). If you thought your husband might be okay with it (it would give him a chance to be involved if it wouldn’t be stressful for either of you, these are fairly light topics.

Also, if you did that you could move your read-aloud time to the morning, freeing up more time in the afternoon. Also, you could switch science with nature study, I find for us anyway that nature study lends itself well to the “free time” CM described, as my boys love being outside and coloring in their notebooks (not sure if yours would feel the same). If it is only once a week for you, this might help make it happen a few more times (if you wanted it to) as they wouldn’t feel like it was so much “school time”.

    HTH!
