I was just wondering how and if you ladies record your filed trip days. We did quiet a few in the last couple of week with some more coming up. There was the zoo, “bodies” exibition, butterfly adventure, a HS group field trip to the grocery store and post office and a trip to a farm is coming up. On all the trips our children discovered, observed , learned something. I was thinking about recording them in the organizer under the apropriate subject (e.g. butterfly adventure under Nature Study ) Is someone else doing this or am I “overdoing ” the recording? Love to hear from you:).
It may depend on your state’s laws. For me, this stuff is just on our calendar. If anyone really wanted to see (which they can’t require without specific court orders), I can just print out my calendar from the year(s) in question. But for some states, they do require a “calendar” sort of record-keeping. Maybe HSLDA’s website has more info on that?
We are lucky to have no recording requirements at all in our State. This said, with me having moved already 13 times in my life I wouldn’t bet that we stay here forever. So this would more be a “just in case” thing.

If you do not have any state requirements, to me it would make the most sense to place your field trips in the calendar where it makes the most sense to you. The state I live in doesn’t require documentation either. Personally I use Google Calendars and for me I put the such things in just as Field Trips, but in the notes area I can put information more specific on what happened or what we were learing.
Just so you are aware, the laws of the state you are in only need to be followed *while you are living in that state.* For example, I moved from WI to MN last year, so anything I had been doing in WI didn’t count toward MN homeschool time. At the same time, since we moved during the school year, I also didn’t have to report my dd who turned 7 after the school year started in MN, though the compulsory age is 7. But I had to report her in WI. So if I were you, I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. I think most states would count a calendar with your field trips written in there as good enough documentation, anyway.
