I have 3 kids: almost 6, 3.5 and 19 months. I have worked with all of them from a young age (baby) to sit at the table with an activity that Mommy chooses. For my LO now, she sits in a buckled booster seat at the table with the rest of us. We have about 45 minutes “together time” when we do Bible and other subjects. I plan 2 activities for her during that time. Granted, we’ve been working on it for awhile and she has built up to this length of time. Some days she only wants the first thing the whole time, and I am ok with that! After we are done together time, she gets down and the 2 little ones play together while I work with my oldest. Then oldest is independent while we do “preschool” with the littles. This is just finishing our first week but it has worked well. A good balance between sitting and moving around. I also have all 3 doing roomtime in the late morning to give me some downtime.
I like the idea of having the physical stations set up, but I wouldn’t count on them being ready to rotate when you tell them too. The older one might want to play longer than the little one (or vice versa I suppose). We aren’t spending that long for school time right now, but I can definitely envision eventually wanting some sort of floor activities/stations for preschoolers. I remember reading a blogger who did blanket time with her littles.
