    Background:

    • We school year-round with Term 1 (Sept – Dec.), Term 2 (Jan. – Apr.), and Term 3 (May – Aug.).
    • We do not do much on Thursdays from Sept – Apr other than our co-op with artist, composer, poet, hymn, folk song, nature study, and two electives. In other words, no math, literature, etc.
    • I will schedule our Bible, History, Geo. studies for MTWF for the year. That’s 180 lessons.

We will be using SCM Module 1 for Bible, History, & Geography. My dd12 will use the Grades 7-9 selections plus a couple of additional books. In the Module Handbook, there are 20-30 lessons per term without lessons for Grades 7-9.

So, I am thinking through whether to have dd jump ahead to the next Gr. 7-9 assignment or simply give her the day off. If I give her the day off, she will need to continue with her studies when we take 4 weeks off each term. If she bumps ahead, she will have no work for those weeks otherwise off.

    Just curious about opinions.

    Christie,

I would give the options to your dd and let her decide. She may choose to bump ahead so that she gets the four weeks off, or she may choose to use her four weeks off to do the assignments she didn’t get to. Having met her, I believe she is mature enough to make that decision for herself, with you keeping her accountable to stick to it, of course. Wink

    Blessings,

    Lindsey

And this might be a great learning experience for her. She might try it one way, learn from that experience, and then try it the other way later in the year. If you make sure you two keep ongoing communication open—from considering options to what she decided for this time to how that went in her mind and yours to what she’s thinking for next time—this could be a very beneficial exercise.

Ok, that’s what I was thinking, too. I’m putting it in her planner with Lesson X – No Assignment. She can choose the break or to skip on to her next assignment. If she takes the break as scheduled, she will have to add that work to our off weeks. She will already have to continue with science or else she won’t get through the material. We shall see what she chooses.
