There are a couple of options… I have done the last 2 suggestions…
1) – treat it like something that occurs regularily but is hard to specify (like swim lessons) – what I do is make a resource with the name – so in this case “Field Trips” – and have 12 resources, named the months of the year… when we do it, we mark it as “Worked On” – the last time in the month I mark it as Finished…. you could write the field trips in the comments…
2) – I have had a resource called “Field Trips”, with a number of resources. When we are going to do a field trip, I edit the resource to put the description of the field trip in, then save and schedule it.
3) – Have a resource called “Field Trips”, with an estimate of the number of field trips you are going to do. Either schedule it on the day that is likely going to be the most field trips – or else on a day like Saturday. On a day with a fieldtrip, you can click to show resources not scheduled that day, and open it so it shows up. Descirbe the field trip in the comment.
Do you currently use the Organizer? If you do, scheduling field trips is simple!
Choose where you want to take your trip;
Go to the Scheduler in the Organizer, and click “add a resource”, which is in small, blue letters;
Enter the title of your field trip in the Title field (i.e. Field Trip to the Zoo or Field Trip to the Space Museum);
I always leave all the other fields blank, and make sure you click “No Divisions”, unless you’re planning a two-part field trip or something like that;
Click “Save & Schedule”;
The Scheduler will take you to your student page, where you can then schedule the field trip for the Family, what subject, date started, and day of the week;
Your field trip will appear in the Organizer on whatever day you scheduled it.
Is that clear as mud?? And, I really hope that’s what you mean by scheduling a field trip!
