Sticky notes are everywhere and i’m driving myself nuts trying to figure this out.
I have 5 children, 4 homeschooling (ages 15, 12, 10, 5, 2)
We have some subjects together such as History (Greek Study), poetry, nature study, art, the younger three are also doing science together, spelling, handicrafts. The remainder of the subjects they do individually. Here lies the problem….trying to do the together stuff without kids waiting around for others to finish what they are doing. Also, if I schedule history for all but the two older ones have additional narrations to do (written) can they do that part later in the day or should that be right after the reading? I feel it should be right after the reading….
I’m in a paper and sticky note nightmare right now.
How about planning family studies right after family meal gatherings? I sometimes read aloud while they are still eating. This way they are already gathered together.
We do morning readings at 9:00 sharp, which is when chores and breakfast are done. Then 12:00 -12:30 is our “silent reading” while I prepare lunch, and we do more readings together during lunch from 12:30 – 1:00. That works best for us because we begin our school day together and then are together again at lunch. Otherwise, trying to rope four kids together would be very difficult.
Okay, after meals and breaks make the most sense! I just found that my 15 year old would end the day with a heavy math load (Teaching Textbooks, Life of Fred and Chemistry)….will have to work that part out. Thanks!
How funny. My 12YO likes to do Teaching Textbooks first thing (usually he gets chores/breakfast done early so that he can do his TT at 8:30 before our family readings). He feels more fresh first thing in the AM.
