I’m going through ‘Planning your Charlotte Mason Education’ and am supposed to be writing down my resources for each subject, which leads to scheduling them out… So if I’m using the SCM history module, would you think it better to write down only that as my resource, having 180 lessons, and don’t schedule the other books since they are in the module schedule? Or do you not write down the module but instead write down the books recommended in the module and roughly schedule those out? I am adding a couple history and bible picture books to the mix so I know I need to add those in separate but I wasn’t sure how everyone makes this work.
I don’t schedule anything EXCEPT the module itself. I already know that the individual lessons are going to come up for that resource and that any companion resources are already listed in the lesson plans. It feels redundant to schedule a book that I already know I’m going to be using because it’s scheduled in another book. Does that make sense? Also, I do not schedule separate history, geography, Bible. I simply schedule the module and start at Lesson 1.
The only modification I have made in this is for our current module, Module 2. We have not followed the geography as outlined in the lesson plans. So I have scheduled Map Study separately and simply omit the geography lessons outlined in the lesson plans. does that make sense? I like to keep a simple and clean Organizer and don’t feel the need to double-schedule.
I have added in extra books that we’re using. For example, we are using Material World and Hungry Planet to read about the countries we’ve studied in the Middle East and Asia. For those, I simply selected which countries I wanted to read about when I scheduled those resources.
I have scheduled both, or all, and am finding that I really don’t need to do that. You can easily put a note of the book that is read or FT that is taken in the little box to the right. I don’t know why, but I like to “see” the book that is being read and I love to mark it as Finished Resource. Do I have to do that?? NO. And, I should stop or use the note box so that my Organizer is not so cluttered with resources?? Yes, because it looks a bit overwhelming.
I have to admit, though, as I type that I’m feeling stressed to take the scheduled books out….I’m a box checker/list maker-crosser offer, LOL.
