My older kids used DIVE with Saxon. It was manageable for them. They weren’t thrilled with math to begin with, but DIVE helped them get through Saxon. Our eldest daughter opted to go with Harold Jacob’s Geometry and used Dr. Callahan’s DVD course with it. It was a much better fit than Saxon. Our youngest son will use Jacob’s Algebra and Geometry. He has never been exposed to MUS. Our older ones tried it too late and thought the language difference and manips were babyish. They’d have benefitted from it. I can see that now. But, MUS was a loaner at the time and they didn’t like saying numbers “the wrong way.” It was an older version of MUS (prior to greek alphabet names) and before pre-algebra level.
This may not help you at all. But, don’t fret before you have him give it a try. If it works for him, even if it’s boring, it won’t be a total loss. Sometimes you have to just work with what you have on hand and find something better for the next year.
