  • I’m looking at these Spanish materials on HSBC. Has anyone used them? I’m wondering if they’d be worth the money. It adds up pretty fast. I could buy a good chunk of the Cherrydale resources for the same money. But I love the idea of teaching/absorbing through songs. Is it worth it?

I tried to do a search of the forum, but I can’t find anything (which might be more a result of my searching techniques than what has actually been discussed).

<bump> Anyone? The deal expires at HSBC on Thursday July 31st. Although I think I’ve seen it there before.

I have to admit that after playing around with the Fun Spanish app and watching my rising 3rd & 5th graders on DuoLingo today, I’m rethinking my original question. I’m probably better off sticking with these and paying a few dollars to upgrade the app.

But still open to opinions! 🙂

Mind me asking what apps?  We are going to start Spanish this year and would love some apps that are good.

FWIW, we are using the Cherrydale program (lesson 3) with year 1 & 2 and we are loving it! It offers a lot even for the middle-school years…I think. They offer free samples if you email them. My kids are initiating practice and asking to do Spanish. At this age I feel it is obviously teacher-involved which I feel is part of the success we are having with it. HTH

mrsmccardell, I appreciate hearing your experience with and endorsement of Cherrydale. i have come sooo close to buying it several times, and even tried to once only to have a processing error. lol  Are you saying that you are using it with a 1st and 2nd grader?

As for the apps, Misty — great question! I think I am going to start a new thread just for that because I don’t have a whole lot to offer and want to hear others’ suggestions, but don’t want to bury it in this thread.

Yes, I am using it with a 1st and 2nd grader. It’s so flexible! For example, lesson 2 offers the main lesson and then variations and even a verse if interested. I am doing the main lesson and as we progress I have intentions of adding in those other layers from the beginning lessons. We named our Spanish audio friend at their request!
