Have any of you enrolled your boys in The Royal Rangers? I plan on beginning my 6 yr old in this come Autumn. Just curious on feedback. My sister’s boys love it.

It looks AMAZING!! They do not have it in our area, but I would sign my boys up in a heart beat!!! We need to support programs like this, our kids & Nation need these type of activities!!!! Sorry I cant give you personal reflection, but I would try it!!

I have not heard of Royal Rangers, but my dh and I started our own family club using Keepers of the Faith.  Anyone ever tried this?  We’re having family club meetings and the kids are earning badges for Scripture memory and activities in which they achieve proficiency.  The badges they can earn are kind of pricey when you have many children, so I make homemade badges for activities like cooking over a campfire, hiking, etc, and I’ll buy the extra special ones for Scripture memory.  They each have their own little bulletin board for their homemade badges and they’ll wear their Scripture badges on their sashes.  There are so many things to learn in these books that I’d never take the time to learn without them.  I’m finding it our perfect handicrafts/life skills guide for our children.  I don’t know how it compares to Royal Rangers, but I do know that RR isn’t around here so maybe it would be a nice alternative for someone.

We have been involved in both groups mentioned, but the Keepers of the Faith group has been just the girls’ one–Keepers at Home.  My son has attended Royal Rangers for about 3 years, and it has been great for him.  I enrolled him because he has had a really hard time making friends (as opposed to casual acquaintances) due to those difficult social skills he has trouble mastering as a child with autism.  While I can’t say that he has formed any lasting relationships, it has been a good experience for him, largely due to the commitment and understanding of the commanders.

If you can spend some time (maybe go out for coffee or something?) getting to know the commanders of your local group a bit, you would be able to judge if it might be a good fit for your son.  It has provided a good mix of Christian teaching, character building, learning new skills, and plain old “guy stuff” for boys.

Thanks to all of you who have posted. I really appreciate the input.

sue_mom23, my son has asperger’s. Combine that with the ratio of girls to boys in our circles and my son has no close friends yet. I will continue to pray for a best friend for him. I am hoping the Rangers will bring him some good relationships. You have truly encouraged me. I am so excited to see what comes from our being a part of the Royal Rangers. Thanks!
