Has anyone read any of these?  If so, did you like them? Are they good quality and interesting to the kids?

Can you list some titles or give the age group that you’re looking at, cjgrubbs? Rod and Staff has lots of books, and I’m not sure which ones you mean exactly. Thanks.

I was looking at the little beginner books to help with teaching a little one to read, but mainly the fiction books for say 8-11 year olds?

I’ve used some of their Little Jewel Books, especially during the preschool years. The ones we used have wholesome, sweet stories that demonstrate good family relationships and glorify God. I wouldn’t call them literary classics, but they reinforced the values that I wanted to promote in our home and the children enjoyed the stories. Some that we read:

    • Berries, Berries, Berries
    • God’s Happy Family
    • Little Jewel Bird
    • The Lost Milk Jar
    • Two Surprises

One book that I recommend with a warning is A Hive of Busy Bees. It has some great stories about character traits, but one of the stories is about a boy who doesn’t want to help his mother. She lays down to take a nap while he goes out to play with a friend, and when he gets back the mother is dead. I felt that particular story was a little too much for my young ones. There are many other good ones in the book, but keep an eye out to skip that one if you think you need to.

I believe we also have Eyes for Benny, which is for the older group (older than preschool). It’s a sweet story that reinforces caring for others and nature study.

    Hope this helps a little
