Hi there!
This year we are studying RLS for our poet study. I found A Child’s Garden of Verses at the thrift store (yay!), but now I am trying to find biographical info suitable for young children – preferably something I can either get at the library or read online.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

I love the Poetry for Young People series. Each book has a 4 page biography of the poet and 24-25 of their poems. They have nice color illustrations and definitions of unfamiliar words. I use them for our Poet Studies – there are quite a few. We’ve done both the Child’s Garden of Verse and this Poetry for Young People over the years. 😉 Here is a link to the Robert Louis Stevenson one:

Sometimes I just look up a biography online and edit as we go – this is usually for the artists, since I sometimes choose to create my own Artist Study. It would also work for poets.

Thanks very much for the Young People recommendation! I checked my library, and it actually has several of the books, including Stevenson – I’ll have to wait a few weeks for my turn, but we can make that work! 🙂

When we studied Stevenson when my children were in the younger grades, we enjoyed Robert Louis Stevenson: Storyteller and Adventurer by Katharine Wilkie. It’s part of the out-of-print Piper biography series, but it’s available through my inter-library loan system.

It’s not strictly biography and is rather fanciful, but it’s fun to read and look at all the details. It’s based on a sea voyage RLS took.

Jamie, I was so excited when I read your post – I went straight to my book to check! But, no, my copy has nothing in the way of biography. It’s an old hard cover copy from 1930, found at the thrift store. Too bad!
I have the Poetry for Young People book on hold, so hopefully that will do the trick.
