We used RS math a few years ago but we got bogged down and I didn’t know about their amazing customer service. But this year, after talking to the rep at the homeschool convention, I decided to use it for both ds6 and dd9. I am SO glad I did. Today was just icing on the cake. We played one of the “simple” math games from the Game Book and WOW! it is a brain teaser. Such a great way to learn addition and subtraction strategies that can be so valuable in working math problems. It is one of those that the whole family can be challenged by (unless, of course, they are already whizzes at mental math). Totally rejuvenated that this is going to build the foundation that I want and in a way that is not onerous.
Which game? I have the Game Book but get overwhelmed at so many choices. We tend to stick with Corners and … can’t remember the name of the other two. lol
I know. I have not ventured into game land very often but I think that is going to change really quickly. I can’t believe how much brain power that took.
We played Bead Trading (A7.1). Once she got the idea, I just upped the total we played to. It teaches – besides trading out- recognizing quick ways to make the number drawn (7=1 ten up and 3 ones down). It also teaches recognizing addition facts quickly when only a partial row was left available (7 = 4 blue beads plus 3 more yellow). Cool stuff hidden in those games.
That is great news! We have been using it for a few years now. Our #1 favorite is Go to the Dump. You can play it for sums = 10 or sums = 11. My son likes Multiplication Memory and Rows and Columns for sums = 15.
This last summer we focused on math games – mostly addition for my older 2 and number sense for the younger, and played most of the games up to a certain point… it was a great way to do math during the summer, and also to learn which games they enjoy…
We love RS! My ds loves Go to the Dump. We are currently playing the doubles memory game to learn 1+1, 2+2, etc. We just started level B 2nd edition and I love the new format
Go to the Dump — yes! That was one of the ones I was trying to remember. OK, this thread is prompting me to pull out the book/cards again and find some new ones. 🙂

There are some videos on the RS website for some games which I have found to be helpful, as the instructions can be a little hard to understand especially for games we never played as kids. The ones like Old Maid, Go Fish, and memory are easier for me to understand. http://rightstartmath.com/resources/card-games-videos
I used RS for my now dd15 and could’t be happier with the results! Absolutely love the concept of recinforcing a new concept with games. I will also throw in that we used Muggins Math games as well. Fun enough that when friends came over they would play with us.
RS customer service is fantastic. Very easy to get ahold of and very responsive.
Would you compare Muggins Math at all with a game like Mancala – in terms of long-term and wide-age range appeal? I’ve thought of getting a board from there in the past but they were so expensive I talked myself out of it. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve been following this thread because I think some math games would help my 8 and 9 yo with their math facts. It’s difficult to figure out what to purchase from RS that would be helpful. Any suggestions? Thanks.
We didn’t like the RS program either because of the way it jumped around. I had everything boxed up and we moved on to another program. We love our new program but I was looking for a way to reinforce the math consepts and have fun and I remembered the games from RS so I pulled those out. We use a couple different things for math but play the games every day.
