I posted my schedule last week for you all to look at and tell me what you think. I have revised it and added in some things and will be adding more as time goes by….slowly but surely. Im a little concerned because it’s not taking us no more than an hour and a half to do our lessons. Hubby made a comment about that we are not doing enough but he doesn’t see the other things we do during the day. DS gets time on the computer and plenty of playtime which is important at this early age. Is this enough or not enough! feeling inadequate!

We are planning our field trips for the year as well. We meet with our homeschool group for meetups and playdates atleast once a week. I am concerned that my son feels lonely alot of the time but for now he’s happy with mommy being his playmate! Anyone care to share! Im feeling the two year old is being left out as well!
Looks good. Remember to keep your lessons no longer than 20 min. each. Provide lots of raw materials for hands-on crafting/building/creative work.
You can remind your hubby that you have to subtract the frequent breaks that he would have at gov’t.school- the wasted time, busywork, lunch break, snack breaks, potty breaks, etc. You’ll have concentrated time with him, so you can get as much and more done in a shorter period of time. It’s apples and oranges.
This looks like an excellent foundation. Are you doing any nature study? What about physical education? Singing and/or hymn study? Memory work? Those are things you might not want to start until you have your routine more solid, but that will round things out eventually. That should help your DH see that you do have a full program going. A public school schedule would also include weekly trips to the school library.
Oh yes….forgot to mention we do nature study weekly as well! Not sure what we are gonna do for physical education besides getting outside daily. I would love to let him take tumbling classes at gymnastics but not sure we can afford it. Any ideas for physical education? Forgot to mention we do composer study each week and listen to classical music each day. I need more time to put this together but we might be learning to play the recorder soon. anyone know where to get good instructions for recorder. I think we are gonna work more on memorizing a poem or scripture!
BIke riding; small trampoline(aka. rebounder); roller or inline skating outside; racing with the dog (if you have one); climbing and hanging on trees; playing at the playground; if you have an at home play-set, use it daily; hula-hooping; jump-roping; cartwheels and tumbling outside; bouncing balls and chasing them; playing baseball (T-ball-you throw, he hits and runs); red light-green light (you yell, he follows direction); when he has friends over, play tag; swimming in the summer
we have a membership to the YMCA – they have sponsorship programs if you can’t afford it. It includes Swim Lessons, and other lessons depending on the Y (some in town here have Karate – not the one we can get to easily….) – that is our main physed….
Thanks for the outside ideas. We live in the country and have a HUGE yard so there is plenty of space to do all of these things. We are gonna work harder about getting outside daily and doing something active.
I wish there was a Y closer to where we live. I didn’t ever think about getting a sponsorship….will have to look into that. We tried Karate one year and it didn’t go over so well but we may pick it back up in a few years!
