Would anyone be willing to give me their review of Kidnapped by R.L. Stevenson? I haven’t read this book and while glancing through a few pages randomly I found a few ‘red flags’ for my preference of influence into our children’s lives. I thank you for your input.
Well, I don’t know sometimes what people mean by “red flags.” If you think Little House is hopelessly immoral you likely won’t like Kidnapped. Stories usually have stuff happen in them. Everyone in Kidnapped is not nice. Stuff happens. People are chased. There is violence. Cheating. Characters of ambiguous morality. And out-and-out bad guys.
That said, it is one of our top ten favorite novels we read with our kids when they were young. I can’t imagine a world without such a good story. We loved it. The language (which does take a bit of getting used to, but it’s so worth it!) The drama and action and storyline. Loved it, loved it, loved it. My oldest especially still discusses it at times, it made a real impression on him.
Thank you for your review. I didn’t mean to declare extreme sensitivity. Scripture has it all and then some. How it is dealt with in the story was my concern. You have helped greatly. Thank you for your insight. What does AO stand for? I am new here.
AO = Ambleside Online. It’s an online homeschool curriculum that strives to be very close to what Charlotte Mason used in her schools.
And welcome to the forum, Cranberry Momma. I should also mention that, if you read the “Welcome and Guidelines” post shown at the top of the Forum Home page of topics, you’ll find a link to a list of various acronyms we often use here. Anytime you come across something resembling alphabet soup that puzzles you, just ask, or check & see if it’s on the list!
