    My mistake the first book in the Melendy series is The Saturdays.

    She’s made up her mind! Here are her choices:

    Capyboppy
    Grandma’s Attic, book 1
    Mr. Popper’s Penguins (we have read this before, but she was four and doesn’t remember it. We checked it out from the library then. Can’t believe I don’t own this book!
    There’s an Owl in the Shower

    Also, just my 2 cents, but a lot of American Girl books aren’t allowed at our house for the same reason you aren’t allowing the JBJ books. I read the JBJ books when I was young, and remember them not being okay for my kids to read either, and I think if I remember correctly they are worse than AG, but you might want to read some of those too. Kirsten, Kaya, and Addy seem mostly okay, but Samantha books are borderline and have name calling, disobedience, etc and then after that (newer character stories) just get worse.
