Our middle daughter had issues with math. We used MUS until pre-algebra and switched to TT. She was so frustrated that she ended up cheating through her pre-algebra year. Grades that got emailed to me looked great so I had no idea. Following year, we had moved back to MUS because I didn’t like not knowing what was going on and she admitted she cheated the prior year so we had to start back at pre-algebra and work through it again. Best thing we did was get her a math tutor! She took A1 with tutor her junior year, then the tutor was able to help her get through Geometry and Algebra 2 during her senior year. At this age, the kids have to have some responsibility to work hard. You can take a horse to water, but can’t make them drink is a real thing. My daughter had some learning disabilities we weren’t aware of until her senior year but truly, God still worked through all of our “failures” and carved out a perfect niche for her that fits her personality SO well. She may not use that level of math, but she runs her own business beautifully and manages her money better than what we taught her. She has learned a lot on her own…as needed, which in my mind is exactly what our goal in homeschooling was to begin with; to teach them how to learn.
